We went back to one of our favorite homes, right next to a beautiful river, to add more sculpted relief art to this Amazing Great Room. We were even gifted by a little visit from the local Moose! Gotta Love the Colorado Rockies! Welcome to my New Apprentice, Justin Mencini! We are happy to announce the addition of our new Apprentice Artist, Justin Mencini to Norling Wakeman Studios!!

Niches are a perfect space for Sculpted Relief Art! Whether it is as a background for a sculpture or a "stand alone" art piece, it can enhance those special areas and I just Love doing them! The world is discovering "Bas Relief Sculpture on Walls" in a whole new way, and we are excited to be a part of that movement!!
Our work has taken us all over the United States, and we have loved every minute of it!! The Rocky Mountain Region, Texas, Utah, Nebraska, Florida, and even Florida has received sculpted relief on walls from us! Our most recent Commercial project was the Horan & McConaty Funeral Home in Aurora, CO. What a special group of people working there and easing the pain of those going through some of the toughest moments of their life! It truly is an honor to have our work in that special place! I Love how relief murals are a beautiful and different approach to interior design issues, show exquisite personal taste, and continually give our clients the "Wow" factor!
I was recently honored to have the opportunity to create a sculpted relief design for the Cabela's private museum entrance wall in Sydney, NE. This sculpted wall relief is only 3" deep and achieves what we both wanted to convey with this lion scene. They also recently changed the lighting on this project, to wash over the wall, as seen in the different photos, and they are also going to soften the intensity. Here are a few sample photos I took along with one of the concept sketches. I will post better photos as soon as I get them. I loved hearing the comments, such as: "OMG I have never seen anything like this before, I Love it", at a party she held recently! It was a wonderful affirmation ! Hey All!
When I started this blog page, I wanted a place where I could share my LOVE of sculpted relief art, our projects, and ongoing info. SO it's now time to live up to that and keep this active!!! Thank you for hanging in there with us throughout these last incredibly busy years while this art form is getting more and more known, popular, and appreciated! We are breaking ground in this field, because even though this art form has been around a long time, it has not been created in private homes and businesses to the extent it is happening now. Which is very exciting! We can honestly say that no one does this work like we do!! :-) My Sculpted Relief Art Business is a journey of doing what I love and serving my clients, which I find especially enjoyable...and it has been worth every minute, sore muscle and split finger...haha, OUCH!! Unlike other wall applications, this work is very different each time it is created, which, while making it more valuable, can make it a real challenge, The business issues...like marketing, meeting clients, bidding & overall creating the walls is just a part of doing business, and I learn something overtime I do it. That being said...I have been wanting to share the variety of experiences that we are having doing this work....and will post more of our experiences in the "business of doing relief art on walls"! Here is a sample of entrance wall: before, concept sketch, and finished work... |
